Tell Me . . .

who she looks like.

Photos of Pudding and her brothers. She doesn't really look like her sister as a baby.

Seven Years and One Month

It amuses me how you can see personalities in babies from the beginning, but you never know what you're seeing until you gain the benefit of hindsight.

Mouse turned 7 last week and Pudding turned 1 month. My autumn babies.

As I've said earlier, I've been trying to take birthday pictures of the kids over the past few years. I've decided that I'm going to attempt to take monthly pictures of Pudding in the same kind of position as I've never kept track of that before.

Mouse is sweet, shy, caring and clever. He is quick and sensitive is every way. He's always been these things, they just shine through more brightly with each passing day.

And Pudding is one month old. I wonder what she's already shown us of her personality. She hates going in the car seat, which is unfortunate as we have a hellish school run twice a day. She finds her daddy amusing and her siblings captivating, but don't we all. Not sure if I've captured her in photos, guess we'll find out.

My green bear.
Not the best photos, but here's one for size comparison with her big sister.

It can't stop them from growing up, but these photos help me retain these fleeting moments. Already Pudding's first month has flown by in a blur, much less Mouse's first seven years.

Here's the mob in our first proper all-together photo. Funny how the older kids can't hide their true selves in photos at this age.

I try to live my life by the saying, look at everything twice, it'll be gone before you realise. Or in the case of kids, look at everything twice, they'll grow up before you realise it.

Autumn Catch-Up 2013

I didn't realise how busy we've been with the camera until I went to download a few for Mouse's party post. So here's a hint of what we've been up to over the last month or so.

Mouse made an Eye of Sauron

We're even more Lego crazy in this house than we were before, but Mouse has been building it himself which frees the Chief up a bit.

We visited Suomenlinna with a friend and Mormor.

The Chief had an autumn clean-up

The autumn colours have been glorious.

We've been chilling a bit, getting used to our new arrival. More updates on this squeaker later.

But sometimes there's just too much work to do, but there's always someone ready to undo it all.

Enjoy these bright autumn days.

Mousie Magoo's 7th Birthday Party

Planning and throwing a birthday party for a 7 year old isn't easy when you have a constantly-feeding newborn in the house. I'm just putting that out there now.

Mouse isn't big on being the centre of attention, he didn't want to invite lots of kids to his party, didn't want to have it at a soft play place. So I planned on a quiet party like last year, 4 or 5 of his friends, a bit of running about and food. Things in my life rarely go to plan, I think I might have mentioned that before.

He only wanted to invite 1 boy from his new class, but his father and I convinced him to take the 8 invites from the pack we bought to school. He handed them all out and asked for one more the next day. He also invited 2 friends from his former nursery. Four people RSVP'd. So I figured a few more would come as well. 8 kids showed up, along with our 4. Needless to say we weren't properly prepared.

The theme was Clone Wars. We did our best. We made a paper maché piñata for them to bash with light sabres (glow sticks bought from the local army surplus store), made a Clone treasure hunt where they found the light sabres, had food and cake sorted.

The kids of course didn't care about our plans and whether they were good enough.  You get enough kids together in one space they make their own chaos, ah, fun. There were even a couple of girls who came along to keep Bump happy and entertained with party dresses and dancing.

I haven't gotten any good birthday pictures of Mouse done yet. I hope to do some tomorrow when we're going out with some friends. Lovely autumn weather and nature always a good backdrop for his photos.

More updates to come.

Making the piñata

The Chief and I made a Clone cake, but I had trouble finding the fondant in the right colours this time, so it wasn't our best work.

Costumes and weapons

Light sabre battle against the Sith Lord

Yes, we shared the sweeties, for the most part.
